I am a registered Clinical Psychologist based in Claremont. I have an integrative approach to therapy and work with adults who are battling Depression, Anxiety, Trauma and Grief.

My approach is strengths-based and I use a range of conventional and innovative modalities in treatment which predominantly include CBT and BWRT.

Client Focus and Treatment Areas

I am a HPCSA-registered Clinical Psychologist based at Mediclinic Crescent Mental Health Services in Claremont. I have an integrative approach to therapy, which means I provide tailored psychological interventions best suited to the individual. I work with younger and older adult clients (age 20+) battling Depression, Anxiety, Trauma and Bereavement, along with a range of other mental health issues. I have a special interest in working with individuals who struggle with social anxiety and people who have lost loved ones during the pandemic and feel stuck in their grieving process.

Orientation and Treatment Approaches

In treatment I use a range of trusted conventional modalities such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) which equips the client with tools to effectively address the dysfunctional thinking patterns that negatively impact their emotional state and drive self-defeating behaviour. I also have a keen interest in innovative neuroscience-informed approaches such as BrainWorking Recursive Therapy (BWRT). I am a Level 2 certified BWRT practitioner, which I use extensively in daily clinical practice to help clients struggling with various traumas, panic attacks and specific phobias. Irrespective of the modality used, my approach is strengths-based, which recognises and emphasises the client’s natural abilities and resilience as central to their progress in therapy. Face-to-face therapy is preferred, but online options are possible dependent on the presenting problem and treatment modality being used.

Qualifications and Experience

My Undergraduate studies and Psychology Honours Degree were completed at the University of the Western Cape and my Masters in Clinical Psychology was obtained from Stellenbosch University. My internship was done at Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital with rotations through the therapeutic ward, Forensics and Groote Schuur Hospital. My Community Service year was served at the Red Cross Children Hospital’s Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (DCAP). Prior to going into private practice, I have provided mental health support to clients in a variety of public sector settings which include Valkenburg Psychiatric Hospital OPD, the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) and in various Higher Education settings in Cape Town.

Entering therapy can involve a considerable amount of time and money, so it is vitally important that you find a therapist that you feel comfortable with. Find someone that offers what you are looking for and when you meet your therapist, you will both likely get a better sense of whether it is a good fit or not. If the latter, no stress; keep looking. As you can see, there are several options to choose from. Wishing you well.
