I am a registered Clinical psychologist with extensive experience in gender issues, relationship difficulties, depression, anxiety, trauma, bereavement, addictions and psychiatric disorders.
Self-exploration and greater self-understanding can only develop in an accepting and warm interpersonal context. It is a context I have striven to re-create with each client that I have seen in 26 years of experience. I utilise psychodynamic, systemic, existential and cognitive-behavioural approaches in my work.
Psychotherapy is best viewed as a collaboration between therapist and client in which both work together to explore the internal world of the client and to bring about change. As a collaboration, no therapy can succeed unless the client feels accurately heard and understood by the therapist. The latter is an aspect of the therapeutic alliance that one has to work at with care, humility and a lack of judgement. It is vital that the therapeutic space is felt to be a safe and confidential space in which the client is able to express him or herself freely.
I offer individual, couples, family and group therapy and adapt my therapeutic approach to the nature of the problem and to what sits most comfortably with the individual client.
