“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” - Aristotle
I am a Clinical Psychologist, registered with the Health Professionals Council of South Africa (HPCSA), and have been working as a successful therapist for 16 years. I offer both brief (supportive) psychotherapy and psycho-dynamically oriented long-term psychotherapy.
The scope of my practice addresses a wide range of emotional conditions and challenging life circumstances, including, but not limited to:
- Bipolar Disorder
- Stress and anger management
- Relationship / Marital difficulties
I offer a safe and contained environment, in which clients can, in collaboration with me, explore their inner conflicts, relationships, past traumas and present challenges. The aim of therapy is to address these areas of their lives which affect their ability to function to their potential. I seek to enhance their understanding of themselves, their relationships and their world, so that they can lead a more fulfilled life, attain a sense of personal well-being, and achieve more satisfying relationships with others.
My area of speciality is the field of trauma. I have worked in the South African Police Services and Metro Emergency Services, trained psychologists, professionals and human resource practitioners in trauma management, worked with numerous companies managing and treating trauma, and worked internationally assisting survivors of Somalian piracy to recover from their months of captivity.
I subscribe to a wide range of techniques, but tend to favour both the psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural approaches, depending on the client and the presenting issues. I am passionate about my work and continually strive to enhance and develop my skills through various educational means.
