Through the process of therapy and hypnotherapy, the unhealthy beliefs and emotions which inhabit body, mind and spirit are revealed and brought to each client’s conscious awareness allowing us to begin dealing with their root causes. My approach is tailored to each individual’s needs integrating different complementary modalities.

The therapeutic space is one where you will have the opportunity to explore and find new ways of looking at existing problems. The therapeutic process can be immensely rewarding, providing the client with new insights and knowledge of themselves and their problem. Although it is often a challenging process, the therapist is there to guide you through it in the most gentle and comforting way. Each story shared in therapy is valued. The therapeutic space is yours to engage in and find comfort in.

I enjoy working with pre-teens, adolescents, adults and couples. I enjoy interacting with each client and exploring different ways of finding a suitable solution. The therapeutic process provides a comfortable and supportive environment where the client can share their problems. Ultimately the process of therapy is to empower individuals and assist them in discovering or rediscovering their own strengths and resources and replace negative belief systems with positive and constructive beliefs and realities. Therapy can be a rewarding and fulfilling journey of self discovery.

Therapy with Adults

Psychotherapy for adults covers many areas, such as:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Post natal depression
  • Trauma
  • Bereavement
  • Obsessive compulsive disorder
  • Substance abuse
  • Gender identity disorder, including gay/lesbian issues, cross dressing, etc.
  • Burnout
  • Stress
  • Coping with illness
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Adult survivors of physical, verbal & sexual abuse,
  • And many more concerns that do not fall in a clearly defined category.

The therapist helps the client identify the problem, some of which may not be clearly defined, and find more constructive ways in which to approach their issues.

Therapy with Adolescents

Psychotherapy with adolescents involves approaching the various issues through communicating with the teenager directly or through a more creative approach. Difficulties affecting the adolescent may include:

  • Depression
  • Exam/school stress
  • Bullying
  • Peer pressure/relationships
  • Low Self-esteem
  • Eating disorders
  • Self mutilation/cutting
  • Substance abuse
  • Identity issues
  • Difficulties relating to parents
  • Divorce & step families
  • Physical or sexual abuse, etc.

Consultations with adolescents are confidential and information is only shared with parents if there is a risk, or if deemed beneficial for a healthy outcome. Parents are however, involved in the process and given feedback. The adolescent client always remains part of the process.

Couple and marriage counselling

No two people are alike or completely compatible and often difficulties arise which affect the equilibrium of the relationship. Each individual brings with them behaviour patterns from their past which are sometimes incompatible in the current relationship. My role as therapist is to help uncover destructive or unhealthy communication styles and behaviour patterns and act as a facilitator for the couple, assisting them to understand each other and helping them overcome destructive patterns in their relationship. I also teach the couple new skills to assist them in communicating and negotiating more lovingly and constructively with each other. Some difficulties that do arise in a relationship include:

  • Communication
  • Sexual
  • Financial
  • Parenting
  • Trust issues
  • Infidelity
  • Divorce
  • General Conflict

Family Therapy

This entails addressing family issues and providing support where needed for the whole family. Difficulties arising in a family can include any of the above. Families often struggle if one member is struggling with a difficulty. For example, when divorce occurs, family members often need to discuss their fears and pose questions as a family.

Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness in which sensory input is processed in a different way for that individual at that time, and is usually accompanied by relaxation and a state of focused attention. During the process of hypnosis there is an increased susceptibility to suggestion. Medical hypnoanalysis is a form of hypnotherapy which follows a medical model by diagnosing and treating the original cause of a problem. It can successfully resolve the underlying subconscious influences alleviating the need for the symptom and unwanted behaviour responsible for the emotional, mental and physical suffering. Under hypnosis we are able to easily access and communicate with the inner mind through the use of hypnosis. Hypnosis opens the door to the subconscious mind. In using hypnosis, I will be able to diagnose the underlying problem and guide you into helping you find the way to get through the barrier into the subconscious mind and identify all the beliefs that have contributed to your problem so that you will have a whole picture of the problem. Once you know what it is, it no longer needs to be a problem. By bringing it to the conscious mind’s awareness, the conscious, logical and thinking mind can then really do something about it. Medical hypnoanalysis is a short term, dynamic and goal oriented therapeutic approach. Most problems usually require between 10 and 20 sessions to complete the entire therapeutic process.
