Silvia Galli

Clinical Psychologist

I am a clinical psychologist registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa in private practice in Hyde Park, Sandton since June 1997.

My clinical work is primarily focused on individual psychotherapy with adults and adolescents. My preferred method of working is within the psychodynamic psychotherapymodality. This approach to therapy fundamentally explores the underlying reasons why we think, feel and behave the way we do. Understanding the conscious and unconscious dynamics that informs our way of being in the world allows us to approach life with greater choice in our everyday actions, this can effect positive change in our experience of life.

I offer both supportive brief-term psychotherapy aimed at dealing with specific problems or concerns and longer-term insight-orientated psychotherapy to facilitate personal growth.
The psychotherapy that I offer is my professional passion and my life’s work. In my practice as a clinical psychologist, I adhere strictly to the ethical principles and rules that govern this profession.

Personal Statement

The central philosophy underpinning my clinical practice is to assist individuals in developing their personal understanding of self, significant others and the complexities of their unique lives.

By creating an empathic and thoughtful environment through the process of psychotherapy, individuals can safely examine and work through their emotional difficulties and personal obstacles so as to develop greater self-awareness and insight.

I believe that living one’s life with personal authenticity and consciousness of one’s thinking, feeling and behaviour leads to greater emotional and mental resilience and thus ultimately, the ability to experience life as more fulfilling and satisfying.

Investing time and effort into one’s mental health is essential to having a more creative and resourceful outlook so as to better face the myriad of life challenges one encounters with a strong sense of emotional well-being.
