Werner was trained as a family systems therapist which focuses both on the network of relationships that contribute to the problem as it presents in therapy and the client as individual. The reality of the world we live in is that few people have the time or money to spend years in therapy. For this reason Werner uses methods that are evidence-based and more brief in nature.
With individuals, Werner utilizes techniques of Brief Solution Focused Therapy (BSFT), Narrative and Strategic Therapy. In therapy, his role is to guide, empower and assist clients to start the process of change by finding new possibilities (and solutions) to the problems that brought them to therapy.
When working with families Structural Family Therapy is preferred to help families navigate through difficult times, stages of change, extreme conflict or severe trauma. Families have resources they often don't recognise (or choose not to). Family therapy helps unlock these coping mechanisms and assists in finding functional ways of dealing with these challenges.
Werner conducts psycho-diagnostic, neuropsychological and forensic assessments with children, adolescents and adults. For more information visit:www.johannesburgpsychologist.co.za
