Angela Cotterell is an invited speaker at the forthcoming congress of the World Council for Psychotherapy to be held in August this year. Her presentation will focus on psychological disorders and family therapy.
Angela Cotterell has a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology (University of Stellenbosch, 2005) and is registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa. She currently provides psychological assessments and psychotherapy to children, adolescents, adults, couples and families in Kloof and the Upper Highway area, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa.
Angela works in a case specific manner, drawing from a range of psychotherapeutic modalities, including psychodynamic and psychoanalytic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, play therapy, trauma counselling and crisis intervention. She works with a wide spectrum of difficulties which include depression, anxiety, ADHD/ADD, bipolar mood disorder, personality disorders, eating disorders, relationship difficulties (family conflict, couple conflict, divorce, parenting, sibling rivalry and teen-parent conflict), trauma and others.
Angela has considerable experience in psychological assessment (including clinical diagnosis, emotional assessment, intellectual assessment, career assessment, neuropsychological assessment, medico-legal assessment and care and contact evaluations) with adults, adolescents and children.
Prior to commencing her training as a Clinical Psychological she worked for 3 years as an Assistant Child Protection Social Worker for the London Borough of Hillingdon.
Her psychological training included an internship at the Tygerberg/ Stickland Hospital complex and community service at Allendale Correctional Service, were she held the position of principal psychologist to five prisons in the Paarl area.
Since completing her training as a Clinical Psychologist her professional career has included: Clinical Psychologist in private practice; Consultant Clinical Psychologist at the Stellenbosch University Centre for Student Counselling and Development; Consultant Lecturer at Stellenbosch University and Midrand Graduate Institute and Practice Director and co-owner of Child and Family Guidance, Bergvliet, Cape Town.
