Clinical Psychologist Linden Johannesburg Riette du Preez
I am a Clinical Psychologist in private practice in Linden, in the Northern Suburbs of Johannesburg. I have a solid background in systemic theory and interpersonal psychotherapy. I hold a BSc (Psychology and Physiology) as well as an Honours in Psychology from the North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus and an MA Clinical Psychology from UNISA. My internship was completed at Sterkfontein Psychiatric Hospital where I worked in the Dual Diagnosis and Forensic Units. I completed my Community Service at Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital. I have 5 years experience facilitating training workshops within the field of Human Resources and working with groups in this manner remains a passion of mine. I currently also consult at Akeso Clinic (Parktown) with Memorycare, which is a medical and psychogeriatric service specializing in assessment and management of people with memory, related cognitive and mental health problems. For more information on this service, visit www.memory-care.co.za
My further areas of interest include psychological assessment (cognitive, emotional and neuropsychological) and I enjoy working with a variety of psychological disorders. I believe that assessments, when used in the correct context, can aid in effective decision-making and enable people to reach their full potential. Therapeutically, I work predominantly from a systemic paradigm and draw inspiration from interpersonal psychotherapeutic methods. Therapy is considered a process, rather than a once-off event. As a therapist, I see my role as empowering, guiding and enabling people to think about and process change and new possibilties in their lives. A mutual relationship, understanding and respect between therapist and client is key in this process. I enjoy taking on this journey of discovery with clients from all walks of life.
By nature of my training background, I am a firm believer in considering the individual within their broader context and adapting interventions to adress difficulties in an effective and sustainable manner. I offer therapy in both English and Afrikaans to individuals (adults, adolescents, couples and families) who may experience any of the following difficulties:
- Stress/Anxiety
- Depression
- Psychosis/Schizophrenia
- Dementia/Memory difficulties
- Family difficulties
- Sexual/Physical/Emotional abuse
- Trauma
- Relationship difficulties
- Post-partum depression
- Difficulties related to life changes (i.e birth of a child, separation/divorce, retrenchment etc.)
