Dr Garret Barnwell is a clinical psychologist practicing from Rosebank, Johannesburg.

I believe in empowering people from different walks of life. I provide short-term and long-term psychotherapy and assessments in person or online. My therapeutic style affirms the inherent value of each individual.

I am guided by what you bring to the therapeutic process and value the importance of the therapeutic relationship. I ground my work in evidence and will work with your personal strengths to overcome the challenges confronting you.
I have a warm approach, and therapy offers a space that is non-judgemental and confidential, where you may be yourself.

• Existential concerns whether related to life and death, grief, or broader angst about the world we are living in.
• Life transitions (e.g., at work, immigration, taking on new roles in the family)
• Relationship distress whether at work or in your personal relationships
• Occupational stress and burnout (including in the humanitarian, NGO or healthcare sector)
• Depression, loss and melancholia
• Panic attacks, compulsions, or anxiety
• Acute trauma, post-traumatic stress and other significant stress responses
• Living with chronic conditions and illnesses
• Support during recovery from psychosis, hearing voices, paranoia, mania or other states that may be challenging to process.
•  Men’s issues (such as relationship conflict and masculinity)
• Climate anxiety and eco-grief

In-depth psychological assessments can sometimes help complement treatment, gain clarity in complex situations or be part of personal development, for instance. I am accredited in several gold standard personality assessments, such as the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory 2 (MMPI-2), Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory – Fourth Edition (MCMI-IV), the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), 16 Personality Factor Version 5 (16PF5) and other personality assessments. I do not provide scholastic assessments nor offer neuropsychological evaluations.
