I am a clinical psychologist in Newlands / Rondebosch with a doctorate in psychotherapy and many years of experience. I see adolescents, adults and couples for therapy.
My approach to therapy is pragmatic and eclectic with an emphasis on depth psychology and the importance of the unconscious. I pay particular attention to the power of habits both good and bad and I insist on the interdependence of physical health with mental/emotional health. I also have Gestalt Therapy, Hypnotherapy and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) in my repertoire and I use them where appropriate. I am steeped in the principles of Behaviour Modification and regard myself as a Behavioural Scientist. Finally, I was credentialed as a Clinical Neuropsychologist with SACNA in 1987 and I practised Neuropsychology for many years. Although I no longer do Neuropsychological Assessments, my knowledge of Neuropsychology remains and it underpins my assessment for psychotherapy as well as my practice generally.
Being an older therapist my knowledge and experience has been forged in the consulting room as well as from life generally. I am a firm believer in life-long learning and I spend at least two hours a week in the reading room at UCT library perusing current journals. In addition I take time out of my busy week to attend lectures and workshops, devoting at least 70 hours a year to keeping myself up to date in this manner. I have done this since I started practising as a Clinical Psychologist in 1983 and the habit has become ingrained.
My rooms are situated in a quiet suburban street five minutes from Main Rd. and twenty minutes from Newlands Station. I charge medical aid rates and consult on Saturday mornings as well as normal office hours. I am registered with the S.A. Health Professions Council and the B.H.F.
I also offer remote video consultations via skype, zoom and clickdoc
