I am a psychologist practicing in the Sandton CBD- within walking distance of many of the corporate businesses there. I enjoy working with adults, adolescents, children and couples. I do a lot of work with people struggling with depression and anxiety and I have a special interest in gender issues and adoption. I work with people on a long term or short term basis.

I work with my client to make sense of their difficulties in a gentle and compassionate way. I believe that the first step to this is to create a space of non-judgment and understanding, where the client and therapist can explore the client’s difficulties in a safe and confidential space.

While I work mainly from a psychodynamic framework, which stresses the importance of how one’s past effects current relationships and patterns of behaviour, I tailor my technique according to the needs of the client. I often suggest that we meet for a few sessions so that the client can get a sense of the way that I work and see if it suits them before deciding whether or not to continue working together.

Adults come to me for many reasons, some of them need emotional support and a space to talk during stressful changes or transitions in their life, such as a break up, a new job, having children, or getting married. Some people are struggling with personal relationships with their partners, spouses, children, friends, or colleagues. Many people also feel like they are struggling with how they feel about themselves and need help to make sense of this. Sometimes, I work with clients who have no specific complaints but feel that they could be living life more fully or authentically, then therapy can be a place to understand themselves better.

I work with couples that are struggling in their relationship and need to work through issues that are negatively impacting on their way of relating to each other. These issues may be related to the way in which they are communicating, how they deal with conflict, a specific area of conflict, children, parenting, extended family dynamics, finances, intimacy and infidelity. Some couples may be separated or considering separation and want to work through this.

When I work with children I use play to get them to communicate their feelings and to process what they are struggling with. Many children present with aggression, poor school performance, sleep or eating difficulties or being withdrawn.

I have a special interest in gender issues, and I have conducted research related to body image, feminism and masculinity. I also work a lot with adoption concerns. I have worked with adopted children (including adult children), adoptive parents and birth parents.

I have helped clients who have experienced the following difficulties:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Chronic illness
  • Self-harm
  • Suicidal feelings
  • Identity issues
  • Relationship problems
  • Divorce
  • Bereavement
  • Interpersonal difficulties (relational, marital, occupational),
  • LGBTIQ mental health issues
  • Adjustment difficulties

I am an independent, board certified clinical psychologist registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and the Board of Health Care Funders (BHF).
