I am a Clinical Psychologist based in Westville and have been in private practice since 1996. I have an interest in depression, anxiety, bereavement counselling, and relationship therapy with my orientation being largely psychodynamic. I facilitate weekend Workshops for Individuals, Couples, and Parents regularly throughout the year.
I am passionate about the healing possibilities that exist for each individual and in my work my role is to assist individuals and couples in their journey towards wholeness and healing. I particularly esteem the theory and practice of Imago Relationship Theory because it makes sense and it provides powerful processes for healing and growth. Imago considers that we are born in relationship, we are wounded in relationship and we are healed in relationship. In order for healing to occur, the creation of safety is essential, because with safety, growth healing is made possible. As children we learn quickly and early on how to defend and protect ourselves against pain. Unfortunately for many people, the adaptations or defences that are constructed as children get brought into adult relationships and more often than not, the very ways that kept us safe as children, tend to sabotage the relationships that are cherished as adults.
I am often asked how change is possible and my standard reply is, identify the original wounding, name it, move past the blaming of it (often on parents/caretakers), forgive self and others, risk challenging old ways of being and thus make room for embracing the fullness of life that is available. The processes that I utilise in therapy facilitate ownership, growth, healing and change and thus the opening up of opportunities for wholeness and for conscious and intentional living.
