I am a Clinical Social Worker in a private psychotherapeutic and coaching practice with over 18 years post-graduate experience, with a focus on adolescents and adults. I have a holistic approach and an eclectic style allowing me to draw from a wide theoretical base and extensive trainings in a variety of therapeutic approaches.

To visit a mental health professional is a courageous step and is a decision that is often made with apprehension and fear, but it means that you are taking control of aspects of your life.

You may want to make this decision because:

  • you need support in a life crisis - a relationship break-up, retirement, loss and grief, illness or other life changes
  • you want to be heard and supported in personal, partner and/or family conflicts
  • you need someone to help you think
  • to help you manage life's insecurities and complexities ...
  • help you in a transition and look for new paths and new perspectives
  • you want to change specific behaviour, improve relationships, improve self-esteem or deal with anxiety, help you with physical and emotional symptoms
  • you want help in discovering your inner resources and potential for self-healing and in mastering difficult life situations and circumstances.

A professional relationship can offer you:

  • a forum where you, individually or as a couple, can gain a better understanding of yourself, each other, or your life experiences
  • help in understanding your emotional responses to life crises
  • a therapeutic relationship in a trusting and confidential environment where you can feel accepted, comfortable, safe and understood
  • a safe place that enables you to express your thoughts and feelings
  • to work together in a supportive environment for exploration and self-understanding
  • to receive emotional support, resolve conflicts with people, understand feelings and problems and try out new solutions to old problems
  • objective feedback

"When we are no longer able to change a situation we are challenged to change ourselves". (Victor Frankl)

The boundaries between counselling and therapy can be blurred. Counselling can be a short-term intervention to lend support in a current crisis whereas therapy may be a long-term intervention to deal with personal or interpersonal issues and therefore needs motivation and commitment to the therapeutic process. The length of therapy depends on the complexity and severity of problems.

I have a holistic approach with a focus on gender, culture, sexual orientation, religion, socioeconomic status, family and life experiences and my emphasis is on increasing self-awareness and problem solving skills, promoting mindfulness, self-care and understanding yourself and others with empathy and respect.

My theoretical base is the biopsychosocial-spiritual model which is a systems theory approach to health, wellness and illness that looks at the interacting effects of biological, psychological, social and spiritual factors.

I have an eclectic style which allows me to draw from a wide theoretical base and extensive trainings in a variety of therapeutic approaches. I make use of mind-body techniques and approaches such as hypnosis and hypnotherapy, E.M.D.R., Energy Psychology, Somatic Experiencing, Logotherapy, Autogenic Training and Biofeedback, but also incorporating new knowledge from neuroscience on the brain and trauma. Mind-body therapy is a psychotherapeutic process that works on the relationship between the body and the cognitive and emotional processes. The intention is to address emotional concerns or unwanted symptoms that operate on an unconscious level that may not be resolved through talk therapy alone.
