B. Soc. Sc (Social Work); B. soc. Sc (Social Work) (Clinical Honours); B. Soc. Sc (Social Work) (Clinical Masters) UCT.
I obtained a Masters degree in Clinical Social Work from the University of Cape Town. Over the last 20 years, I have worked therapeutically with individuals, families, and groups in various settings such as primary schools, tertiary institutions, family mental health units, state primary health care clinics, fertility clinics, corporate companies, and in the private sector.
I apply a psychoanalytic framework when working with clients, in that I always consider the impact that early and past experiences have had on their current lives and behaviour. I also use strategies from other modalities, depending on the specific needs and age of the person. These may include cognitive-behavioural strategies, art and play therapy techniques or mind-body practices.
I provide a safe, thoughtful, non-judgemental and confidential space for individuals to share their thoughts, feelings and experiences. This helps them to locate the source of their distress, process and make sense of their feelings and experiences, and ultimately develop healthy coping and problem-solving skills.
Having practised for many years in primary schools, I have an in-depth understanding of the needs and challenges facing teachers, parents, and children, and offer a variety of services to support and encourage emotionally healthy learning environments.
I completed a two-year course in Group Psychoanalytic Training through the Cape Town Centre for Group Analytic Studies, currently sit on the faculty and teach the course which introduces group analytic concepts to educational settings.
I have a particular interest in working with groups and offer various workshops, training, and groups for parents, teachers, and organizations.
I am registered with the South African Council for Social Services Profession and with the Board of Healthcare Funders. Members are able to claim from Medical Aid for sessions provided.
