Akashni Maharaj is a therapist in private practice. She works with adults, adolescents and children. She adopts various modalities in her approach to therapy. She has completed her PhD in alternative therapies and has married the area of alternative therapies with traditional psychotherapies. She specifically looked at how these modalities can be used in unison with one another to maximize the therapeutic process. She has found that the mind-body-spirit connection is an amazing tool to work with. Most of today’s imbalances come from the mal- alignment of the mind, body and the spirit. Akashni's work in her practice is two-fold, she works with children/adolescents as well asadults. She is a family mediator and works with many children who are stuck in the process of their parents divorce.

One of her methods of therapy involves the use of Hypnotherapy in her practice. She finds that it is a powerful tool and more people are leaning towards hypnosis as a means to address their psychological maladies. Hypnotherapy can assist an individual to become more consciously aware and it allows the conscious mind to sit back and access the sub-conscious mind where all the trauma lies dormant. Once the subconscious mind is accessed many suppressed problems can be addressed. She has found that hypnosis addresses issues from current as well as past lives (Past life regression).
