Maxine Grimett

Counselling Psychologist

As a compassionate, experienced Counselling Psychologist (over 10 years experience), working both in-person and online with adults, couples and groups, I have a special interest in helping to improve relationships, particularly the relationship you have with yourself!

I believe in creating a safe, nurturing and non-judgmental space in order to facilitate personal growth and healing. You do the best you can, but at times life can be overwhelming. I have found that the supportive space which psychotherapy provides may assist towards a more fulfilling, ‘well’ life. Empathic understanding and the belief that you are the person who knows the most about your own experience, are central to how I work.

My therapeutic work is grounded in mindfulness – focusing one’s attention on the ‘here-and-now’ with kindness and compassion toward oneself and others. I also incorporate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) into sessions, depending on the client and the situation.
I provide brief and long-term psychotherapy for youth (from age 14), adults and couples who want to overcome emotional, mental and relationship challenges. People usually consult with me for the following:

  • Anxiety
  • Trauma
  • Relationship issues
  • Finding purpose
  • Family conflict
  • Depression
  • Work related issues
  • Improving marital relationships
  • Difficulties with emotional regulation
  • Bereavement
  • Stress management
  • Self-esteem/confidence difficulties

This journey, although sometimes painful and difficult, will be an important and courageous step towards wellness. I will be honoured to share in your unique journey to healing and self-discovery.

I am contracted to most major medical aids and have a reduced cash rate.
