I am a Counselling Psychologist practicing in the suburb of Milnerton, Cape Town. I operate by initially building a trusting relationship with my patient, and then exploring thoughts and feelings relating to both their past and present. One of the goals of therapy is developing insight into patterns that have existed for some time, and approaching parts of your life that have become problematic for you. I believe that helping people get in touch with their true emotions and learning how to deal with these more effectively is a difficult, yet ultimately very rewarding path.
I provide the following psychological services:
- Adult Psychotherapy/ Counselling
- Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy/ Counselling
- Psychological Assessment (children, adolescents & adults)
- Career Assessment
- Parenting Guidance
- Couple’s Counselling
- Trauma Debriefing/ Treatment
- Insight Oriented Personal Development
I have been in private practice since 2009, and have therapeutic experience in a wide variety of environments. During this time I have developed as a therapist and have enjoyed dealing with a large variety of people. In addition to private practice, some of my other work has included working with addictions at various in-patient addiction centres. Furthermore, I have provided corporate counselling as part of employee wellness programmes at large companies.
Before 2009 I counselled at the South African Depression and Anxiety Group, where the focus was on providing therapy to individuals experiencing symptoms primarily related to depression and anxiety.
I also worked at the Student Counselling Centre at the University of the Witwatersrand during my internship, where I provided psychotherapy, psychometric assessments as well as career guidance services to people.
I hold a Masters in Counselling Psychology (University of the Witwatersrand) and am a registered Counselling Psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (PS0107727). My Masters dissertation focussed on professional men’s constructions of their masculine identity. The study was an exploration of men’s understandings of themselves and the world in a changing environment.
Orientation and approach
Although I have a preference for psychodynamic interpretations, I believe that an eclectic approach, where many concepts and techniques are adopted, is effective.
Psychotherapy for me is such a diverse activity, where the goals differ from person to person. I aim to create a meaningful relationship that fosters insight and understanding about your current life situation.
