Adelbert Scholtz

Counselling Psychologist

In my practice, I combine my expertise as psychologist and pastor. I retired at age 55 honourably as pastor to start a new career as counselling psychologist, psychotherapist and pastoral counsellor.

My training in psychology, pastoral family therapy, labour relations, theology and philosophy equipped me with the skills to deal with most human problems, be they psychological, relational or spiritual in nature.

Accordingly, my approach is holistic. In my practice, I deal with all the dimensions of human existence: psychological functioning, human/social relationships, spiritual problems, occupational functioning, physical health and ethical issues. My experience includes dealing with people who suffer from trauma, life transitions and crises, depression, bi-polar disorder, eating disorders, anxiety disorders, learning problems in children, phobias and substance abuse, as well as career counselling, psychometric testing and forensic psychology (custody disputes, reports regarding mitigating circumstances and delictual claims).

My approach is eclectic and I make use of clinical hypnosis, behaviour therapy, family therapy, EMDR and EFT in appropriate cases.

I am a former part-time lecturer in pastoral care and counselling at the University of the Free State and the University of the Western Cape.
