René van der Bank completed her BA Hons (Social Work) degree at the University of Stellenbosch and shortly thereafter relocated to the United Kingdom. During this time she also completed a Post Qualifying Award in Social Work (PQI) through the Royal Holloway University of London.
Over a period of ten years in the United Kingdom, René practised as a registered Child Protection Social Worker, within different Child Protection Teams across several Boroughs. During this time she gained extensive experience in completing multi-disciplinary assessments for Children in need, undertaking Care Proceedings and attending court. René also spent time in a Fostering and Adoption Team where she acquired a range of skills working with foster carers and the adoption process.
Since returning to South Africa, Rene has registered with the South African Council for Social Service Professions and has been involved in community projects undertaken by CABSA (Christian Aids Buro of South Africa). She has also supported staff members through bereavement counselling sessions at the Helderberg Society for the Aged. René is a qualified FAMAC mediator and is able to assist families in resolving their differences.
It is René’s passion to advocate for children by focussing on their wishes and feelings. She strives to empower children and their families to promote their own strengths and thereby enabling them to achieve necessary change.
René lives in Somerset West with her husband and two children. She is practising from the practice of René Phaff & Associates and is able to facilitate sessions in Afrikaans and English.
