Kalk Bay Counselling, 136 Main Road, Kalk Bay, Cape Town, South Africa

If you experience any of the following, you may benefit from what I have to offer:

  • Want something different for yourself but seem unable to make the change?
  • Are concerned by your own or someone else’s substance use or repeated behaviour
  • Are worried about your stress levels
  • Feel overwhelmed or out of control
  • Feel unhappy and depressed a lot of the time
  • Feel stuck
  • Are struggling to adjust after a sudden change or traumatic event.

Everyone experiences difficulties and crises at times in their lives and sometimes these can be overcome on your own or with the help of friends.  However, sometimes it’s just not possible to manage alone, especially where there have been efforts to change a situation or habit and these have been unsuccessful.

I strongly believe in the ability of each person, given the right conditions, to implement change and to improve their lives.  I offer a professional and non- judgmental environment in which people can explore their current situation and possible change.

I am experienced in working with people with anxiety and depression and all types of addiction.

I am a certified advanced TRE® provider.
(See www.treforafrica.com for more information on this body based method of releasing stress and tension.)

My areas of special interest are:

  • Adolescence
  • Alcohol, drug and other addictions
  • Depression and anxiety
  • Relationships

Prior to establishing a private practice,  I worked as a trauma counsellor and then in an Addiction Treatment Centre in Cape Town for 6 years.

I am familiar with different approaches to counselling and draw from the following, amongst others: – humanistic, cognitive, brief solution focused and somatic therapy and use a ‘best fit’ practice, depending on your needs and what you as an individual experience as most resourceful.

Together we establish meaningful goals and work on developing the practical skills necessary to achieve these, using effective communication, relaxation techniques and the management of strong emotions or self-defeating behavior.  Clients are encouraged to implement insight gained during counselling into their daily life and these shifts are supported on a session to session basis.

My rates are reasonable and structured to make counselling accessible to all.
