Claremont, Cape Town
Registered Counsellor and EQ Practitioner
Unit 13, Draper Square, 9 Draper Street, Claremont, Cape Town
My name is Melanie Godfrey, I am a Registered Counsellor and Well-being Practitioner and have my own private practice and work together with two colleagues. We believe our practice focuses on the family as a whole. My areas of specialisation are adults individuals and groups, adolescents, couples and families. I offer counselling face-to-face in my practice in Claremont, Cape Town and online with individuals and groups worldwide on different platforms.
I believe that being able to understand and accept your own strengths and limitations allows you to be able to respect your own values and move forward through life being able to put authentic boundaries in place.
Psychotherapy is not a “one size fits all” treatment. I use a holistic approach in my counselling which focuses on physical and emotional well-being. It is person-centred and solution focused utilising CBT, mindfulness and other modalities including creative and art therapy tools. I deal with (amongst others) issues such anxiety, stress, emotional self-awareness, self-regulation, social and relationship awareness and burnout, offering skills and tools to help each individual understand their own self, how it affects their behaviour and how to make healthier choices in order to balance all aspects of their life.
I have developed programmes such as “The importance of EQ in the Workplace” , “The effects of Burnout and how to manage it”, “Loss and bereavement” and “The importance of Well-being for employees” amongst others. These programmes have been run in schools, corporate environments and with University / College students both face to face and online.
I believe I am an empathic and attentive listener and offer a safe, non-judgmental space for my client / group to unpack their challenges and guide them in creating coping skills and develop tools to help them face their day to day challenges and relationship goals.
I have an understanding of the ‘family’ as a whole and the roles family members play, offering guidance on open communication and understanding of the different roles in order to create a healthier family unit.
I love my work and am passionate about helping and guiding individuals and groups. I have worked in many different communities in the Western Cape and Ireland and the UK and enjoy learning about different cultures and people. I thrive when running workshops both online and face-to-face and offer group therapy both privately and within corporate environments.
I look forward to meeting you.
