Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) focuses on shifting people from negative interactional patterns to secure and safe connections. Loved ones learn about the impact they have on each other and how to repair conflict from a place of vulnerability rather than blame. The therapy is ‘emotionally focused’, because it is through our emotions that we access the heart.
Negative patterns can become very stuck and entrenched and people can feel full of despair and hopelessness. When our motivation to get back into connection is fairly strong, these patterns can often be fairly quickly undone. Once we start becoming conscious of how we are relating together and take responsibility for our contributing role, then positive shifts naturally occur.
I work exclusively with couples and families. The therapy is designed to be short-term, but the exact number of sessions is dependent on each couple/family. It is useful to view the therapy process as an investment of between 10 and 20 sessions. My rates are R600 per hour or R800 for an hour and a half.
