MA Clin Psych (UCT)
I have learned many different schools of therapy throughout my life and studies making my understanding of therapy multi-layered. In choosing which therapy to use for a client, I tend to work intuitively and use the approach that speaks to my client’s specific needs at the time, adapting and changing as their needs change.
I draw on an eclectic mix of theoretical approaches: Jungian, Psychodynamic, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), mindfulness practices, trauma therapies and narrative therapies all influence my practice.
Psychotherapy is a rich study and there are many different types of theorists and therapists to choose from to inform your practice. For those with a background in psychology, those that I draw upon most are Jung, Bion, Winnicott, Kohut, McWilliams, Hollis, Roberts, Hillman, Mindell and Kernburg.
My former work in body therapies has also deepened my understanding of the way in which our bodies express and store psychological stress. Through the lens of psychoneuroimmunology, one can gain great insight into how the body is storing pain, anxiety and stress, and in this way, begin to unpack why.
“The most authentic thing about us is our capacity to create, to overcome, to endure, to transform, to love and to be greater than our suffering.”
